Eva McGregor Dodds

Popcorn Expert, Future Novelist, Lifetime Golf Student.

Eva began working in college admissions in 1991. She has counseled college applicants face to face in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Massachusetts, and Washington DC. Based in Michigan, she meets in person with local clients and consults online with students all over the US.

Eva has worked in two college admission offices (Harvard, Wooster) and three high schools  (Detroit Country Day School, The Holton-Arms School, St. John's School-Houston).  

She is an active member of both the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling which presented her with their 2002 "Up and Coming Member Award" when she worked at Detroit Country Day School, and their 2010 "Up and Coming Member Award" in acknowledgment of her contributions as an independent college counselor. She is a past president of the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling.

Eva has visited scores of college admissions offices, often while attending college admissions workshops.  

Eva received her CAS from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy, an MEd and Secondary Teaching Certification from John Carroll University, and a BA in History from the College of Wooster where she lettered in three sports and served as a team captain. 

Eva founded American College Consulting LLC in 2005. She affiliated with Collegewise 2017-2022 and was honored to be named their “Rookie of the Year” at her first Collegewise Annual Retreat/professional development conference.

A 2021 winner of the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award for dedication to the field of education by a Coca-Cola scholar who wrote to Eva; “... you have been a consistent source of genuine support and crucial honesty for over a year now. Your selflessness and willingness to take a chance on me gave me the confidence to take a chance on myself.”

Eva loves working with high school students and their families as they navigate the college admission process. She enjoys matching the unique talents and characteristics of students with ideal colleges, while ensuring that the applicant is showcased to their best possible advantage to colleges.

She has counseled many athletes, visual artists, and performing artists.

She enjoys counseling students with learning differences as well as matching students with gap year and transfer opportunities.

Eva is well-versed on the multitude of constantly evolving financial aid options and scholarship opportunities. 

Her teaching (History), coaching (soccer, track & field, cross country and field hockey), administrative duties (Dean of Students), and college counseling (Director, Counselor, College Admission Interviewer) positions have allowed her to share in the lives of thousands of students. 

These experiences have taught her to be a thoughtful listener, a goal-oriented educator/counselor, an effective communicator, and a proactive advocate for the college applicant.
