Angela Harger

Family Vacation Planner, Country Music Fan, Social Butterfly (who appreciates a good nap).

Angela credits her personal journey into counseling and college advising to her fourth grade school counselor. After moving and attending five different schools in four years, Angela learned the impact that one person can make when they take the time to really get to know you. From that point forward, Angela felt called to a career where she could build relationships, work with people individually, and assist young people in reaching their goals. She earned her BS in Psychology from Xavier University and her MEd in School Counseling from Loyola University Chicago. Angela has been advising students and families through the college process for more than a decade.

Angela has spent the last 20 years in various roles working with students and families from all over the country. She has spent her years as a comprehensive School Counselor, Director of College Advising, as well as an application reader for the University of California San Diego. Angela has worked in three different high schools, spending the last 13 years at two different Jesuit high schools. She has had the opportunity to visit over 100 college campuses which helps her understand the unique offerings of each college to assess which ones might be a good fit for her students. Angela constantly reminds her students that the college search and application process is an individual journey which requires research, reflection, and open communication. Some of the most fulfilling moments in her career are when a student considers a school that they had never thought of until she recommended it. Helping students and families think outside the box is one of her favorite parts of the job and she considers herself lucky to be a part of each student’s process.

Angela is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and has previously served as the President of the Jesuit High School College Counselor Association. Angela remains committed to regular professional development, especially as the landscape of college admissions continues to change so frequently. Working in a high school also affords her the opportunity to be on the forefront of communication from colleges and universities all over the world.

Angela lives in Sacramento, California with her husband, two busy children, and a goldendoodle puppy who still needs a lot of training. Angela established Harger Consulting in 2024 and is thrilled to be a part of ROOT.
