Eva McGregor Dodds

Popcorn Expert, Future Novelist, Lifetime Golf Student.

Eva began working in college admissions in 1991. She meets in person with local families and consults online with students located anywhere.

Eva has worked in two college admission offices and three high schools.

She is an active member of both the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling which presented her with their 2002 "Up and Coming Member Award" when she worked at Detroit Country Day School, and their 2010 "Up and Coming Member Award" in acknowledgment of her contributions as an independent college counselor. She is a past president of the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling which awarded her their highest honor, the Gramenz Award, in 2023 for "outstanding service to students, counseling, our profession, and the association. Eva has visited scores of college admissions offices, often while attending college admissions workshops.  

Eva received her CAS from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy, an MEd and Secondary Teaching Certification from John Carroll University, and a BA in History from the College of Wooster where she lettered in three sports and was a team captain. 

Eva founded American College Consulting LLC in 2005.  She affiliated with Collegewise 2017-2022 and was honored to be named their “Rookie of the Year” at her first Collegewise Annual Retreat.

She was awarded a 2021 Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award for dedication to the field of education by a Coca-Cola scholar (University of Chicago) who wrote; "Eva, ...you have been a consistent source of genuine support and crucial honesty for over a year now. Your selflessness and willingness to take a chance on me gave me the confidence to take a chance on myself.”

Eva enjoys matching the unique talents and characteristics of students with ideal colleges, while ensuring that the applicant is showcased to their best possible advantage.

She is experienced in advising students with learning differences. Eva also connects students with gap year and transfer opportunities.

Her teaching (History), coaching (soccer, track & field, cross country and field hockey), administrative duties (Dean of Students), and college counseling (Director, Counselor, College Admission Interviewer) positions have allowed her to share in the lives of thousands of students. 

These experiences have taught her to be a thoughtful listener, a goal-oriented educator/advisor and a pro-active advocate for college applicants.
